CRHGisthefirstcenterintheUStooffergenetictestingofembryoswithoutabiopsy.Non-invasivePGTisamethodbasedonsequencingthegenomicDNAsecretedintotheculturemediumfromthehumanblastocyst.WeareusingthisnewmethodasitishighlyaccurateandfarlessinvasivethanPreimplantationgeneticscreening(PGS).
PGShasbeenwidelyusedtoselectinvitro-fertilizedembryosfreeofchromosomalabnormalitiesandtoimprovetheclinicaloutcomeofinvitrofertilization(IVF).ThemaindisadvantageofPGSisthatitrequiresabiopsyofthepreimplantationhumanembryo,whichcanlimittheclinicalapplicabilityofPGSduetotheinvasivenessandcomplexityoftheprocess.Previouslybiopsyinganembryowastheonlyoption,butthisrequirescuttingcellsoutoftheembryototestforgeneticabnormalitiesandpotentiallydecreasingtheembryoqualityby2-5%.Nowwiththisnewtechnology,weofferbydoingNon-InvasivePGTitresultsinzerodamagetotheembryo,thereforeahigherpregnancyrate.Thisinvasiveapproachcanhavenegativeinfluencesondevelopmentoftheembryo.
PatientsthatareinterestedinNon-invasivePGTwillfirstcomeinforaconsultationwithDr.SamNajmabadi.OncethepatienthasstartedIVF,theICSItechniqueisusedtofertilizeaneggwithsperm.Wewillgrowtheembryotoblastocyst,thenonceitreachestheblastocyststagewecollecttheliquidfromthedishtheembryohasbeenculturedinandwetesttheliquid.Chromosomescreeningcanbedonewiththisliquidinsteadofbiopsyingtheembryo.
